- Opening and closing hours
- A shop opens no earlier than 8 a.m. and closes no later than 8 p.m.This comes from the Labour Department's reprint of the Act in the West Bengal Labour Gazette 2011. Its footnotes run to the amending Act of 2002, so an amendment after that would not appear in this copy; and the scan carries a previous reader's yellow highlighting on the page dealing with the recovery of wages. - Hotels and restaurants
- A hotel, restaurant, eating house or cafe closes no later than 11 p.m.Section 7(1)
- Changing those hours
- The State Government or an officer it empowers may change the limits, generally or for an area or class of shops, by notificationSection 6(1), proviso
- Weekly closing
- Every shop and commercial establishment stays entirely closed one day a week, declared in a notice in Form GSection 5(1)(a), with rule 11 of the 1964 Rules
