Overtime
When it bites, how to calculate.
Hours beyond the daily or weekly cap are overtime, paid at twice the ordinary rate. Ordinary hourly rate here: monthly wage ÷ 26 ÷ 8. State may notify a different daily maximum; the weekly 48 still holds.
- Karnataka shops
- OT after 9 hours in a day or 48 in a week.
- Industrial / OSH
- OT after 8 hours in a day or 48 in a week, unless a notified spread applies.
- Maharashtra / TN / TS
- Same 2× rule under the codes; daily cap follows that state’s S&E / factory rules.
Example: 8 OT hours on ₹28,000 → ₹2,153.85 at 2× ₹134.62 / hour.
