Uttarakhand directs interim relief for engineering units after twenty years without a revision
Government Order No. 391604/VIII-1/26-228(Shram)/2001 of 29 April 2026 directs that, until further orders and as interim relief, workers in engineering units and industries employing fifty or more workers be paid ₹13,800 unskilled, ₹15,100 semi-skilled and ₹16,900 skilled a month with effect from 1 April 2026 — basic wage inclusive of adjusted dearness allowance. It is made under section 21 of the Uttar Pradesh General Clauses Act, 1904 read with section 3(b) of the United Provinces Industrial Disputes Act, 1947, not under the minimum wage law, and it supersedes every earlier notification for those units. The order recites why: the previous fixation for engineering units was notification 2492 of 15 May 2000, roughly twenty years earlier; a tripartite committee constituted to revise them never met; and after the District Magistrate of Udham Singh Nagar warned on 17 April 2026 of industrial unrest “like Noida, Uttar Pradesh”, a fresh committee was constituted on 22 April and met on 27 April. The semi-skilled figure was issued as ₹15,000 and corrected to ₹15,100 the following day by amendment No. 510 of 30 April 2026. Non-engineering units were revised separately in 2024, and these rates do not reach shops.
