Minimum wages

State, zone, skill — shops vs industrial.

These rates applied until 30 September 2026. Revised rates are being added.

All three zones. Highlighted: Zone 1, the zone chosen above.

Daily rates including the allowance, for 1 April to 30 September 2026. Jharkhand's own Hindi and English texts of this notification disagree on one figure, and it is the most-used wage in the State: the unskilled daily rate in Area C, which covers everywhere outside a municipal area. Ten per cent of the basic ₹425 is ₹42.50 exactly, and the Hindi rounds it up to ₹43 for a total of ₹468 while the English rounds it down to ₹42 for a total of ₹467. Each text is internally consistent, and the copy downloaded from the State's own portal is identical to the one held here, so the disagreement is in the instrument rather than in any reading of it. Both figures are shown and neither is preferred.

These rates covered 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026 and that period has ended. A newer notification is due; until it is published and reviewed, the figures below are the last ones on file.

The same notification also says

  • This notification is made under section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019, not the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 — issued in pursuance of section 69(2) of the Code and continuing in force under section 7(2) until a further order is issued.
  • It names no scheduled employments at all. Unlike Bihar's 89 or Odisha's 91, it varies only by area and by skill, and applies to employments across the State.
  • The notification publishes a daily table and a monthly table, and they do not reconcile: ₹515 a day in Area A is ₹13,385 a month, where 515 multiplied by 26 is 13,390. Its note (c) has the allowance rounded to whole numbers, and it is rounded separately at each cadence; its note (e) then gives the conversion as dividing by 26 and multiplying by 26. Both language texts agree on both tables, so this is the instrument's own arithmetic rather than an artefact.
  • The basic rates were fixed with effect from 11 March 2024 on the index of 386 for June 2023. Note (a) calls 386 the June 2023 index while the body of the notification calls it the average for January to June 2023; both statements are in the same document.
  • The allowance is ten per cent: the average index for July to December 2025 is 147.5, which converts to 425 on a factor of 2.88, a rise of 39 points over 386, or 10.10 per cent.
  • Note (f): the rates include the remuneration payable for the day of rest in a period of seven days.
  • Note (g): an employee who works on the weekly rest day is entitled to overtime at the rate prescribed in rule 25 of the Minimum Wages Rules, 1951 — the notification is under the Code, and cites the 1951 Rules for overtime.
  • Note (h): male and female workers are paid the same rate for the same or similar work.
  • If the index falls below the point at which the allowance was fixed, the notification says the allowance is not reduced.
  • The copy held here is the departmental order, which asks the Superintendent of the Government Press, Doranda, to publish it in the forthcoming extraordinary issue of the Gazette and to supply 500 copies. The gazette issue carrying it is not part of the document.
  • Jharkhand runs three wage streams in parallel on three different basic-rate dates: this one from 11 March 2024, the piece rates from 13 September 2024, and the contract labour rates from 28 June 2024.

The notification states monthly rates only. It publishes no daily rate, and no way of working one out from the monthly figure, so none is shown.

Jharkhand's own rules · researched

The table above is from the state's own published minimum wage notification. Everything below is Jharkhand-specific, researched and not yet checked against an official source.

Jharkhand sets one wage table for the whole State by area and skill, and names no scheduled employments at all. It publishes the rates twice over — once a day and once a month — and the two do not multiply into each other.

How the figure was arrived at

The index
147.5 for July to December 2025, converted to 425The six months come to 885 and average 147.5; multiplied by 2.88 that is 424.8, taken as 425. Against a baseline of 386 that is a rise of 39 points, or 10.10 per cent, applied as 10 per cent.Notification No. 2/M.W.-2071/2010 (Part-3), L&T-742, Ranchi, 25 May 2026, Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, under section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019
The legal basis
Section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019Issued in pursuance of section 69(2) of the Code and continuing in force under section 7(2) until a further order. This is one of only two instruments on this desk made under the Code rather than the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 — the other is the Andaman and Nicobar Islands' order. Its own note on overtime nonetheless cites rule 25 of the Minimum Wages Rules, 1951.Notification No. 2/M.W.-2071/2010 (Part-3), L&T-742, Ranchi, 25 May 2026, Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, under section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019
Scheduled employments
None namedThe notification varies only by area and by skill. Bihar's equivalent covers 89 named employments and Odisha's 91; Jharkhand's names none, and Schedule-1 to it is the area classification rather than a list of employments.Notification No. 2/M.W.-2071/2010 (Part-3), L&T-742, Ranchi, 25 May 2026, Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, under section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019
The baseline
386 pointsNote (a) calls 386 the index for June 2023, while the body of the same notification calls it the average for the period January to June 2023. Both statements are in the document and it does not reconcile them.Note (a) to the notification
If the index falls
The allowance is not reducedNotification No. 2/M.W.-2071/2010 (Part-3), L&T-742, Ranchi, 25 May 2026, Labour, Employment, Training and Skill Development Department, under section 6(1) of the Code on Wages, 2019

How these differ from the wage table
A different basic date, no areas, and two decimal placesThe order applies the same ten per cent, but on a basic fixed from 28 June 2024 rather than 11 March 2024, with one set of figures for the whole State rather than three areas, and without the rounding to whole rupees the wage notification applies. Its monthly totals are accordingly higher than the wage table's Area A monthly totals.Order of the Labour Commissioner, Jharkhand of 29 June 2026 under rule 25(2)(v)(b) of the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Central Rules, 1972
