Minimum wages
State, zone, skill — shops vs industrial.
These rates applied until 30 September 2026. Revised rates are being added.
One statewide rate for each grade; the notification sets no zones.
Daily rates including the allowance, for 1 April to 30 September 2026. This notification covers 1 April to 30 September 2026. Bihar computes the allowance on a half-year of the consumer price index and brings it into force three months after that half-year closes — this one takes effect on 1 April 2026 on the average for July to December 2025 — so the cycle is 1 April and 1 October. A reader standing in February should be looking at the October rates rather than expecting something newer. The notification states the lag itself.
These rates covered 1 April 2026 to 30 September 2026 and that period has ended. A newer notification is due; until it is published and reviewed, the figures below are the last ones on file.
| Skill | Statewide |
|---|---|
| unskilled | ₹436.00 / day |
| Semi-skilled | ₹452.00 / day |
| skilled | ₹551.00 / day |
| Highly skilled | ₹672.00 / day |
The same notification also says
- The rates are per day. Note (a) of the notification makes a month the daily rate multiplied by twenty-six, so the monthly figure is the notification's own computation and not a derivation.
- For DOMESTIC employments only, the notification fixes an hourly rate: the notified daily rate divided by eight. No other state on this desk sets an hour this way.
- There are no zones. One set of rates runs across the 89 scheduled employments of Schedule-1(b).
- Note (b): the rates include the remuneration payable for the day of rest in a period of seven days.
- Note (c): for overtime on the weekly rest day or on any other day, a worker is paid twice the wages at the rate prescribed in rule 25 of the Bihar Minimum Wages Rules, 1951.
- Note (d): male and female workers receive the same rate for the same work or similar type of work.
- If the index falls below the point at which the rates were determined, the notification says no change is made to them — the allowance does not go backwards.
- Schedule-II's heading is dated 1 October 2025 while its own final column is headed 1 April 2026 and its third column is the cumulation to 1 October 2025. The operative date is 1 April 2026; the heading was carried over from the previous notification.
- This notification is a revision. The rates it builds on were fixed by notification (58,59) of 23 September 2025, published in Bihar Gazette 1560 of 24 September 2025, which is not held here — only the order that carries its figures forward.
- The 89 scheduled employments are referred to and never listed. Unlike Odisha, which prints all ninety-one of its own, Bihar's list is not in this document and is not reproduced here.
- Schedule-III is a second and much larger regime of piece rates for twelve employments, charged against output rather than time. It is published in full on its own page.
Bihar's own rules · researched
The table above is from the state's own published minimum wage notification. Everything below is Bihar-specific, researched and not yet checked against an official source.
Bihar fixes wages twice over. Schedule-II sets a rate for a day's work by skill grade, and Schedule-III sets rates for quantities of work — per hundred cubic feet of stone, per lakh of bidis, per haircut, per railway wagon. Both are in force together, and the second is much the larger.
